We are located below the Blue Pearl Specialty and Pet Hospital. Our entry way is down the stairs to the left of the entrance to Blue Pearl. Blue Pearl Pet Hospital does not see exotics on an emergency basis.

Your pet’s wellbeing is our top concern. The staff at Maryland Avian & Exotics Veterinary Care are trained to stabilize and treat avian and exotic pets in the case of an emergency. If your exotic pet is exhibiting signs of illness, please call us right away; it may well be an emergency situation.

Maryland Avian & Exotics Veterinary Care is not a 24/7 Emergency hospital. We do not accept walk-in patients. Please call us in advance, or on your way to us, so that we can prepare for your pet as soon as you walk in the door.

We suggest you call right away if your exotic pet is exhibiting any of these symptoms:

Birds:

• Drooping wing or wings
• Falling off the perch
• Eyes closed with long periods of sleepiness
• Vomiting/regurgitation
• Discharge from nostrils, eyes, mouth or any part of the body
• Labored/open mouth breathing
• Severe bleeding
• Decreased stool production and or appetite for up to 12 hours

Small Mammals, Rabbits:

• Decreased appetite
• Discharge from mouth, eyes or nose
• Loose stools
• Lethargy (inactivity)
• Trauma
• Labored/open mouth breathing
• Severe bleeding
• Decreased stool production and or appetite for up to 12 hours

Reptiles:

• Trauma
• Fractured shell
• Difficulty breathing
• Mouth held open while breathing
• Unusual wheezes, crackles, or other sounds while breathing
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Weight loss
